Alice Hughes
January 10, 1956– May 5, 2026
Alice Ann Hughes was born on January 10, 1956, in Poteau, Oklahoma, the beloved daughter of O’ Dell and Othella Evans Hughes.
She attended Muscatine High School. After high school she served her country as a proud veteran of the United States Air Force.
Alice was a devoted member of Purpose Place Church. Her faith was central to her life—she has taught Sunday School, participated in prayer meetings, and poured her heart into her church community.
Alice embraced the simple joys of life. She found peace in reading her Bible, loved dancing, and enjoyed playing cards and board games. She loved listening to music especially Gospel and Motown—which lifted her spirit and filled her home with joy. She had a deep appreciation for fashion and carried herself with style and grace.
She loved the outdoors and nature, whether she was boating, hiking, exploring, or simply walking. Alice had a generous heart. She was always helpful, supportive, and quick to celebrate the milestones and happy moments of others. Above all, she cherished her family and treasured every moment spent with them.
Alice leaves to honor her memory: her daughter, Phoenice Mason; grandson, Mason McCormick; siblings, Melva Hughes, Ophelia (George) Boateng, Virgie Chatman, Pastor Wanda Hayes, Amanda (Dr. Gabriel) Abiola, and Janice (Dr. Yusuf) Adewuyi; In-laws, Carol Hughes and Sterling Warren Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, family, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: O’Dell and Othella Hughes; siblings, Pastor Howard Hughes, Richard O’Dell Hughes, Pastor Quinzola M. Williams, and Minister Priscilla M. Warren; and niece, Reverend Jacqueline McCoy. Alice will be dearly missed and forever remembered for her kindness, strength, and the love she shared so freely.
